Weddings must be performed by a Minnesota registered minister and the couple must have a Minnesota state marriage license. Civil ceremonies are not permitted.
Smoke-free, alcohol-free campus
Smoking, dancing and drinking alcohol (including communion wine) are not permitted anywhere on the University of Northwestern campus.
All photographs must be taken prior to or during the ceremony. You may begin taking photos outside once your dressing rooms are available (four hours before ceremony start time).
If you are having your wedding videotaped, our sound engineer can run a feed from our sound system to your video camera (if the camera has an audio input) to add quality sound to your video recording. Your videographer must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the wedding in order for the sound engineer to set up the audio connection. The sound engineer will not be able to provide this service less than 30 minutes prior to the ceremony.
Not all audio and video systems are compatible. If you would like to verify A/V compatibility in advance, you or your videographer may contact the wedding coordinator.
Please inform your florist that the chapel is available only on the wedding day within the contracted time frame. No adhesives are allowed to attach decorations to any surface in the chapel. To attach decorations to the candelabra, florists may use pipe cleaners or wire covered with floral tape.
Music & musicians
You may choose music that is meaningful for your wedding experience, whether religious and/or secular. Because of the acoustic properties of the chapel, use of drum sets and amplified electric instruments is discouraged.
Protection of valuables
Because the campus and buildings are open to the public, University of Northwestern cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items.
Noise on campus
Out of respect for our neighbors, guests should refrain from honking horns while on campus.
Rice, confetti, etc.
Throwing rice, confetti, birdseed, flower petals or similar items is not permitted.
